Meet Julie, Joel, and Hannah

In 2015, long-time residents Joel and Julie Stoppel fulfilled a dream of opening a gallery where they can show off hand-picked art from Michigan artists. They've lived in Petoskey for over 30 years, and in that time have been consistently involved in the local art community. 

Julie

Julie has an MA in art education, and has taught art at Concord Academy Petoskey, Concord Academy Boyne, and NCMC. Prior to teaching, Julie was a buyer, manager, and GM in the retail sector, where she learned all about running a successful business with an eye for style and creativity.

She stays active in the arts and theater community in Petoskey by capturing the Northern Michigan landscape in pastel on sandpaper, jurying local art shows, and as a member of The Dean's List improv troupe!

 

Joel

Joel has been a master craftsman for most of his adult life. After finishing an MA in sculpture at Michigan State University, where his work is on permanent display, he has focused his talents on finish carpentry. Joel has worked on creating beautiful, artistic interior designs for some of the most high-end homes in the area. In his spare time he is inspired by the world around him and makes mobiles using fabric and wood foraged from his own backyard.

Joel has taught 3-D design and other art classes at NCMC for years, and has helped many artists to perfect their work. Joel is also a musician who plays all over the area and has a multitude of musical friends who he is honored to play with.

 

Hannah

Julie and Joel's daughter Hannah joined the Somebody's team when she moved home in 2025 after 12 years working in the theatrical costuming industry in Louisville, KY. 

An unfocused creative, Hannah studied creative writing and costuming at Michigan State University before earning an MFA in Fiction Writing at Pacific University.

She is also a passionate singer of both folk and classical music, studied vocal performance at Interlochen Arts Academy, and performs around the area both as a soloist and as a member of the Noteable Chamber Choir.
